Hello WCPS Families,
This time of year always reminds me to pause and reflect upon those individuals who have given me their time, talent, support, and love. I am thankful for all that we have to celebrate in our wonderful school community, including the support you provide our faculty, staff and students each day. I hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday by spending quality time with your family and friends.
Nominations are being accepted for 2024 Kentucky Teacher Achievement Awards which recognizes the most outstanding educators across the Commonwealth. Last year, we were honored to have our very own Rockfield Elementary’s Ashley Buchanon selected as a 2023 Kentucky Teacher Achievement Award winner from nearly 2,000 nominees from all 171 school districts. You can click this link for more information and to nominate one of WCPS’ most outstanding teachers today!
We are excited to announce a new partnership between WCPS and Cumberland Family Medical Center which will provide health services in each of our schools for all students from preschool through 12th grade, beginning Wednesday, January 4, 2023 (when school resumes after winter break). We are establishing a Healthy Kids Clinic in each of our schools in an effort to have a registered nurse available to see students who are feeling ill. Through this partnership, the nurse assigned to each clinic will have the authority to administer over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, antacids, etc., with parent/guardian permission. There will be no cost to families for the school nurse visits or over-the-counter medication administration. Our district will also have four mid-level medical providers (i.e., nurse practitioners or physician assistants), assigned to each of our four feeder systems, who will be available to serve students for more severe symptoms. More information about this service can be found here. Before any medical services can be administered to a student, the parents/guardians must first complete a Healthy Kids Clinic Registration Form for each child. That form should be returned to the school to be given to the school nurse. The Healthy Kids Clinic Registration Form can be found here. We understand that not all families have access to a printer; therefore, a hard copy of the Healthy Kids Clinic Registration Form will also be sent home the week after Thanksgiving break (11/28/22-12/02/22). We are very excited about this partnership and feel that our families will benefit from the services provided by the Healthy Kids Clinics in our schools. Please click FAQ to read a page with questions and answers to help you understand this new service.
Again this year, our Board of Education has approved the use of 10 Non-Traditional Instruction Days (NTI) which can be utilized on inclement weather days. Should an NTI day be used in the event of inclement weather, students are expected to participate in the required assignments/activities and families will be notified through Infinite Campus (email and text), the media and social media. Please know that all inclement weather days may not necessarily result in an NTI day as there are several factors to consider when such a decision is made.
We are helping the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) with a coat drive to help students affected by the flood in Eastern Kentucky. You can drop off new winter coats and accessories by Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at WCPS’ Central Office (303 Lovers Lane) or donate by Venmo: KY Assn of School Admin.
It’s never too early to look ahead and in the spring of 2023, we will be inducting our next group of esteemed individuals into the Warren County Public Schools’ Hall of Distinguished Alumni. The annual event showcases the remarkable contributions our graduates have made both professionally and through their philanthropic efforts on a local, state and/or national level. We really need your help identifying these outstanding WCPS alumni who are eligible to be included in next year’s ceremony. You can nominate a WCPS graduate to be a part of this exemplary group by clicking here or by scanning the QR Code (deadline for nominations is December 15, 2022):
As always, please reach out anytime we may be of assistance to your child or family and thank you for partnering with us to make WCPS a special school community.
