Principal Message

Greetings, Spartans!  We are excited to begin the 2020-2021 school year and look forward to working with each of you!  As most of you are aware, students who selected the in-person option will attend SWHS two days a week.  Group A (Red) Household names A-J will attend on Monday and Wednesday and Group B (Blue) Household names K-Z will attend on Tuesday and Thursday.  Friday is designated as a distance learning day for both groups.  If you have questions about household names, please review the information recorded in Infinite Campus by 1. Logging into the Parent Portal and choosing “More” 2. Click “Address Information” 3. Locate the household name at the top of the page.  If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us at 270-467-7500.


If your student is in the Blue Group, he/she will not report to school until Tuesday, August 25.  We ask that students in the Blue Group review information located on his/her teachers’ websites on Monday, August 24. 


We realize that a great deal of information has changed since intent forms were initially completed.  If you would like to discuss the options available or change your intent form, please contact the school by calling 270-467-7500 or by emailing your student’s guidance counselor:

Instruction on the A/B Hybrid Schedule

Students will be receiving a full week of instruction through the use of Google Classroom and other tools.  The lessons each week will cover five days of instruction or the amount of days in the week.  When your child is not at school, he/she will be required to participate in learning each day.  



We know that for our students, one of the most anticipated events leading up to the school year is the day they receive their schedule.  Schedules will be available in Infinite Campus after 12:00p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020.   Students will also be able to access the SWHS Schedule Change Form on Friday.  Please note that schedule change requests will be very limited this year.  Acceptable reasons to request a schedule change might include a core class missing or a class placed on the schedule out of sequence.

Virtual Open House

Friday, August 21, we will be sharing our virtual open house by email and on the SouthWarrenHigh.com website.  Included in this series of videos will be: a tour of the building, information about getting involved in athletics and clubs, highlights from our student handbook, car rider drop off and pick up procedures, videos from every teacher about their classes, and HealthyAtSchool procedures.  I also want to share again the SWHS Reopening Plan.  Please take a few minutes to review this information with your student.  


Dual Credit Courses 

Students who have registered for WKU or SKYCTC Dual Credit Courses- classes begin Monday, August 24 for WKU and September 1 for SKYCTC.  Courses should be denoted on the student’s schedule. If a student registered for a course but it is not reflected on the Infinite Campus schedule please contact Mrs. Nugent.  Dual Credit courses taught in house (CIT 105/ENG 101/ MA 130/ PS 110)  will be registered with the SWHS dual credit instructor. Students are expected to participate and follow the college calendar for these classes regardless of your status as a virtual student or in-person A/B schedule student. Students will not be permitted release time during the first week.  Mrs. Nugent will host a Google Meet on Friday, August 21 at 2:30p.m. for students that have questions or concerns.  Students may join with their school email at this link meet.google.com/icu-gdec-ggx .



This year we are encouraging students to bring their own device to school.  

In order to provide for the best learning experience and protect the security of

the school's network, the following devices are the only allowed devices: iPads or iPad minis running iOS 11 or above, Android tablets running 7.0 and above, cell phones (Apple, Android, or Google OS), as well as Chromebooks and Apple laptops.  Chromebooks and Apple laptops are preferred over mobile devices such as cell phones, however, teachers will make every effort to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students regardless of technology.  EDITED 8/18/2020: We can now allow Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 laptops that have antivirus ENABLED.  Gaming devices are not approved devices.  Students with their own device are encouraged to bring them the first day.  

If you indicated your student needed a device on the intent form, a staff member contacted you this week regarding checkout. For those families still in need of a ChromeBook, please complete this form.

Virtual Academy Students

For students who have chosen the Virtual Academy option, Mrs. Dallisa Haas and Mrs. Julie Waddell will reach out to students and parents via an email later this week.  Students will be contacted via their school email.  On Thursday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and  5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., staff members will be located at the bus loop doors (on the back side of the high school) to distribute Back to School packets, which is a collection of forms that needs to be completed by the guardian.  The completed forms should be returned to school the week of August 24.  These can be dropped off at the front office or returned via US Mail.


Support for Parents/Guardians

Our Instructional technology department is offering online live support/tutorials for parents/families.  We will live stream from YouTube on the dates below.  We will be discussing Google account basics overview, Google Classroom basics, Google Meet basics.  These will be auto-archived to the WCPS YouTube account for on-demand viewing.

We will share additional information about the first four days of school in our Open House videos, but our focus during the first week will be to ensure students are familiar with their schedule and room locations, their classroom and school expectations, and that students know how much we have missed them!  This school year will challenge all of us, but we are confident that our Spartans will rise above these challenges.  We deeply appreciate all your support as we navigate these uncharted waters, and we look forward to seeing our Spartans very soon!
